This series began in early 2025. I wanted to create a composition within a composition by juxtaposing a photographic painted image on minamilist geometric abstraction. I wanted to break down the work to what I consider to be the three most important aspects in figurative painting, composition, subject matter and color. I also wanted to allow the background to enter into the photographic image. To marry the two, this way, permitting the two complimentary colors to interact within the subject matter.

The painting of the photographic image began in 2023 with my series “After Photo”. I became very intrigued in capturing what only the camera can capture. Seeing what the naked eye can never see. The fading and blending of the light. The hot spots and reflections, the areas out of focus beside the sharp clear details.

I am not a photorealist, as I take liberties in the painting process that would be outside the criteria of photo realism. I sometimes want to let the viewers see the process, like the brush strokes and the blending. In this, I sometimes let the viewer see the hand of the artist.
